TO BE A CHILD: a vibrant exhibition of textile art by Ruth de Vos, 26 April to 5 May 2012 at the Central’s Showcase Gallery in Northbridge - open Wed-Sat (11-4:45pm), closed Anzac Day public holiday - and from 12 to 25 May at the Vancouver Arts Centre in Albany.” With a riot of colour and form the artworks were created in order to enjoy and capture the wonder of small children discovering this awesome world. Ruth de Vos has stitched these vibrant textiles which incorporate traditional quiltmaking techniques in a contemporary way to powerfully record the learning experiences of little children. This exhibition encompasses several years of work. Hundreds of pieces of fabric were hand-dyed by the artist to produce the required range of colours. AUSTRALIA WIDE TWO, an excellent selected exhibition of works by members of OZQuilt Inc continues to travel and will be at Bunbury Regional Art Gallery WA from 13 April – 20 May 2012. STITCHED AND BOUND 2012 Exhibition of Contemporary Quilts will be staged from August 18 – September 23 2012 at Heathcote Gallery and Museum, Applecross, WA. It is an initiative of WAQA (Western Australian Quilters Association) which is held very two years to showcase original contemporary quilts. This will be the ninth in a series, and it is only open to WA textile Artists. Regular monthly meetings commenced in February 2010 – the venue is Queens Park Recreation Centre, cnr. Centre St and George St, Queens Park 6107. The time is 1:30-4:30pm on the first Saturday of every month. Entry is $5.00. Each month there is a theme of the day, a demonstration, a talk or a hands-on session. Renowned children’s book author and artist, Jeannie Baker, is launching a new book, Mirror – “a visual story is told, contrasting the hurly-burly of life in Sydney with a remote village in Morocco, revealing similarities between two outwardly different cultures, ways of life and landscapes.” This is a traveling exhibition supported by the Australian Government through the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR).
