MASTERCLASS with Ruth Hadlow at TAFTA’s Gallery 159 workshop space from Nov. 19-23, 2012: SENSIBILITIES OF PLACE. Enrolments accepted now; ten places only. FLOAT (out of adversity comes sheer joy) – this is an exhibition at Woolloongabba Art Gallery which challenges defeat and celebrates life, the creative innovation of GhostNets Australia alongside Emerging Brisbane artist Joannah Underhill. Ghost nets are lost or abandoned fishing nets; GhostNets Australia is an alliance of 22 indigenous communities form across coastal northern Australia, together with rangers and volunteers, who gather abandoned nets as they wash up on our northernmost shores, distributing them to remote indigenous communities where they are turned into a range of colourful and creative works that commemorate life on the sea’s edge. Colourful and fabulous baskets and sculptural artworks are the result.    PROGRESSIONS Entry Forms for 2012: “You are invited to enter PROGRESSIONS, a textile art exhibition to be held at the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery in September 2012. This exhibition has been held every two years since 2000 and has always been a great success and attracted a lot of interest as it is open at the same time as the famous Carnival of Flowers which attracts thousands of visitors to our city. LEFT OF CENTRE Exhibition to February 26, 2012. This is a joint exhibition/activities featuring Lysbeth Gould and Wanda Bennett at the Lagoons Gallery and Café, Mackay open Wed-Fri, 10am-3pm and weekends 9am-4pm. These two textile artists both work with plant fibres in different disciplines. Lysbeth Gould is a paper artist and Wanda Bennett is a creative weave – here they join forces to celebrate works made from natural materials. Each believes art should be interactive when possible. Buderim Craft Cottage Fabric Art and Surface Design Group presents "VISION V" our 2012 Wearable Art Display and Sale of Unique One-Off Garments. The theme for this our fifth biennial wearable art exhibition will be "Underwater". A feature will be our centrepiece of way-out wearable art. There will also be a display of past challenges. The Glovechallenge and our interpretation of Surrealist Art (following from a visit to GOMA exhibition) "Off The Pallet" An exhibition by group members, will also be held to coincide with Vision V. BRIBIE ISLAND COMMUNITY ARTS CENTRE

BANKSIAS TO BEACH” ARTS FESTIVAL: 14 – 29 JULY 2012

After a very exciting and successful Arts Festival held in 2010 the Bribie Island Community Arts Centre has decided to make this a biennial event. In 2012 the Festival will be bigger and even better! There are 40 tutors willing and able to hold workshops in many fields of the Arts over the course of 16 very full days.

In the field of textiles tutors will be Caroline Sharkey, Sue Senewiratne and Christine Thompson. Their workshops range from one day to four days and will cater for all levels. The fee is $75 per day which will include morning tea and lunch.

Other workshops include painting in oils, acrylics, mixed media, pastels, pen and wash, glass moulding, pottery, gem faceting, silversmithing, twisted silver wire jewellery, ukulele playing, woodworking, carving, pyrography and even mask making. Something for everyone! The success of the 2010 festival was such that it was awarded “Best Event in the Moreton Bay Region”. A Queensland Government Award for Community Involvement was also achieved. Bribie Island is 60kms north of Brisbane and is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The Art Centre is surrounded by a national park which makes for a very peaceful environment. There is ample parking and the facilities are excellent. The Centre is run entirely by volunteers and is open every day from 9am – 4pm except Mondays. A Craft Market is held on the last Sunday of every month in the grounds surrounding the Art Centre.    PINE RIVERS ART GALLERY: TWICE WORN TWICE MADE will show to 24 February 2012. Artists Cynthia Nicklin and Gabrielle Myjer explore textiles through reuse and re-creation, making old into new. Cythia Nicklin reuses old clothes that would often be discarded, to make vibrant rugs and garments while Gabrielle Myjer’s organic freeform felting utilises age old techniques to create contemporary textiles. Cynthia Nicklin will offer a rag rug making workshop on Feb 18 for two hours in the morning; in the afternoon of that day she’ll offer a Scrumbling workshop. Inquiries to (07)3205 0555. BERBAGI: Papermakers of Queensland, Sunshine Coast University. February 3rd to March 3rd 2012. ‘Berbagi’ is the Balinese word for ‘share’, which sums up the spirit behind this exhibition. In the spirit of sharing, Papermakers of Queensland opens its memberships to anyone interested in making art with paper. The exhibitions features the work of the ten members of POQ who travelled from Australia to Bali, their hostess and 2 inspired local artists who have since joined the ranks of POQ's membership. All of the works will be primarily paper based and will include two and three dimensional pieces, large and small works, collaborations, and journals, and images from the trip. The POQ artists participating are: Helga Hill, Glenda Hennig, Jill de Hayr, Ngaire Macleod, Jill Brose, Tricia Smout, Joolie Gibb, Joanna Faber, Judy Barrass, Di Tait, Lynne Fellowes and 2 international artists from Bali, Narause Kiyoshi and Joseph Borde.

The Tea Cosy capital of the world, Miles (in Queensland, Australia) is again seeking the world’s best tea cosies, following the great success of the 2005, 2006 & 2010 World Tea Cosy Making Competition, which attracted entries from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, U.S.A., South Africa, New Zealand & France. NEW: The Collecting Queensland Festivals website has been launched!
From melons and pineapples to camp ovens, Captain Cook and country music, Queensland’s colourful regional festivals feature on a new Q150 website developed by the Queensland Museum Resource Centre Network in partnership with 11 regional Queensland museums.  Collecting Queensland Festivals is an online collection of 11

regional museums’ displays that showcase the history of their community festivals and celebrate community spirit across the state. Festival stories, images, videos and memorabilia make up the online collection.  The website is the culmination of the Queensland Museum Development Officers’ two year, state-wide initiative to encourage regional museums to engage in contemporary collecting which has not been widely practised.
