Anita Larkin 2012 Tutor for CONTEXTART
Anita Larkin has been making and exhibiting innovative felt sculpture works since 1993 and exudes enthusiasm for this most ancient of textile crafts. Larkin is represented by Defiance Gallery in Sydney, and has a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Sydney College of the Arts). Larkin continues to experiment with what 3D shapes are possible within the medium of felt. The resulting felt forms have been shown at numerous galleries including, The Hungarian National Gallery, The Art Gallery of NSW, The Wollongong City Gallery, The Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award, The Textile Museum in Italy, and most recently at the 6th International World Textile Art Biennial of Contemporary Art in Mexico for which she received the award for textile art object. She is a generous and patient teacher, with 18 years teaching experience, gently encouraging students to push their creative ideas to fruition. www.anitalarkin.com

Workshops
Collage for Felting – 2 day workshop, Sat/Sun; April 14/15, 2012.
Collage is seen here as a way of developing ideas for and then making 3D objects (hat, vessel, bag, etc). This workshop will definitely expand the possibilities of the objects you can make in felt. Explore new shapes that will arise from cutting and laminating resist templates; cutting and joining fibres around the resist; and cutting and joining during the actual felting process. This can be a most interesting way to develop and also to use resists when creating felt forms. The focus is on 'serious play' and the tutor will provide the student with a series of structured exercises to make new and interesting shapes in their felt work. This class requires you have had some previous experience of felting. No materials fee.Enrol Now
Sculptural Forms in Felt - 4 day workshop. From noon on Monday 16th April to noon on Friday, 20th April 2012.
Felt can be a wonderful medium for sculptural shapes. There are definite limitations involved when making shapes using the resist method. We will therefore explore how shapes, both solid and hollow, can be made without resists by conjuring them directly from the wool fibres, beginning the form with dry felting methods. Fibres can be moulded directly in the hand, torn apart, added to, stretched and manipulated to make intriguing shapes both in the dry state and the pre-felt state. This class will also look at methods of felting around found objects successfully. The tutor will work individually with each student to explore their own sculptural forms and ideas in felt. This class requires you have had some previous experience of felting. No materials fee.Enrol Now
